Maureen & Max’s Incredible and Intimate New Orleans Wedding

Max and Maureen had an absolutely incredible wedding that included a New Orleans Second Line, lots of dancing at the reception, cultural traditions and so much love and joy. When Maureen reached out about having me fly down to New Orleans to shoot the day, I couldn’t get on a plane sooner!

Their day was specifically focused on community, and they featured alot of their own friends as vendors and people in their own community. That was something Maureen originally mentioned from the very start.

It was a very laid back morning, and Maureen took her time getting ready. Her sister’s finished up their speeches, and got to work on helping Adi, Maureen and Max’s daughter, get ready. Maureen’s mother helped her get into her dress!

Adi came over to the Airbnb that Maureen and her family were staying at and her aunt’s helped get her into her dress and did her hair. Meanwhile, we did some bridal portraits and Adi’s reaction to a first look with her mother was absolutely adorable and so heartwarming.

Their ceremony location was at a NOCCA, the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. The plan was to have the ceremony in the grassy area in the back, but rain made us pivot to doing it in the art gallery. All the guests happily moved inside and gathered to watch Max and Maureen say their vows.

After all, rain on a wedding day is said to be good luck! A knot that is wet is stronger!

Max and Maureen chose to have a very intimate and intentional ceremony and asked many friends and family to speak, share poems and say some kind words about their relationship. It was a very authentic and personal way to add a unique touch to their ceremony.

After the ceremony, the traditional New Orleans Second Line began down the street! Everyone was dancing and just having the best time.

During the cocktail hour, guests mingled, drank and ate bites while we snuck away to do some family portraits.

Maureen wanted an editorial approach to photos, so we shot outside right as the sun was leaving us and got some creative bridal portraits.

The reception was beautifully set up Maureen and Max had a little station with gifts for their guests. They had an espresso station from a local coffee shop too!

The rest of the night, Maureen and Max spent mingling and dancing with their guests. It was everything they hoped and imagined it would be!
